Busy Week

True, our definition of "busy week" is shortly to undergo a major shift, but this is the first week that baby-related things have gotten to be a major part of our day-to-day life. We had a checkup on Wednesday (all still normal). Then Thursday we had our first pre-natal Class. It was the first of two "Caring for Newborns" class. We also narrowed our list of names down to nine:

  • Cadel
  • Dean
  • Dylan
  • Ephraim
  • Ethan
  • Langston
  • Liam
  • Maxwell
  • Rhys

For middle names we're thinking about Aiden, Thomas, Paul and Dean.
We probably won't give another update on names until we meet him, as we won't make a final decision until then.
Next week is even busier, as we have the first Non-Stress Test, another session of "Caring for Newborns", a meeting with the pediatrician, and a Breast Feeding class. Plus Nicole has a "regular" doctor appointment. Whew.

Hmmm.. I'm kinda likin' Dylan Thomas Evans. But you know, because of this page, he's going to be Peanut no matter what you decide the name is!

Love,

Dad

Do grandmas get to vote? If so, I'd vote not to reuse your angel's name... even as a middle name. Before I vote on a first name, I'd want to know how to pronounce the first and last names on your list. I'd also want to know your reasons for picking all of them. Do they have specific meanings that attracted you? Many of the names in your list are totally unknown to me. When I saw the name Maxwell, I immediately thought of the bummbling spy, Maxwell Smart in the TV series "Get Smart". It was in prime time when I was young and it's on Nick at Nite now.

Of course grandmas get to vote. It's like Chicago. Every gets to vote, some people's votes just get counted more.

Obiviously the middle names all have meanings but the first names really don't. Cadel is pronouned Cuh-dell. Rhys is pronounced Reece.

Dylan Thomas, and Cadel are both actually somewhat low on the list because of the well-known people with those names. We're trying to avoid (to some extent) giving the baby a name he'll have to "live up to". We figure any child of ours will be able to forge his own path, so we don't need to try to push him down an existing one from the begining.

Hmmm.... I vote that you not reuse any part of big brother's name.

I like Rhys and Ethan. As I recall, Rhys made the short list for Aiden too so it must be a name that appeals to both of you on some level. Thomas could be a shared family middle name if you wanted to honor Aiden ... Sean Thomas, Aiden Thomas, Peanut Thomas. Dean is close to my heart for a first or middle name. Dad would be so pleased to share his name with a great-grandson especially since he never had a son. I know that once you have met him and get to know him for a couple of days the perfect name will seem like it was the obvious choice all along.

I agree with John, he'll probably still be Peanut to us.

Love to all of you,

I like Dylan and Maxwell. Dylan Rhys Evans? When I read Langston, I hear "La Vie Boheme" from Rent in my head.

Well, Cadel Evans is cool, and probably wouldn't be immediately recognized by anyone that didn't follow cycling. I considered Ethan as well, but every time I said Ethan Evans in my head, I heard Ethan Allen. I really like Liam or Rhys. Like I said, it was much easier for Graeme and I, because there was only one boys name we could agree on... so Stefan it is. Even if we can't agree on how to pronounce it.
